Consultants at Curie
PE Consultant
Coach Danna Olson
Before having kids, Coach O taught in the classroom & as a PE teacher at the middle school level. When her oldest was a 2nd grader at Curie & her youngest started Kinder, she enjoyed being on campus with the kids as a room parent so much that she became one of the visiting (substitute ) teachers on campus. A few years later she started teaching PE a few days a week as well. Coach O is so happy to still be at Curie (10 years later) doing both.
Coach O tries to cultivate that sense of community & character building in her PE classes, reminding the kids that: "No one will remember how many times you won on the wall ball court - but what they will remember are the classmates that helped them up when they fell & the ones who encouraged them to try again." Her hope is that in PE class the kids find at least one activity that they like to do (dance, jump rope, tennis, volleyball, running, etc.) that gets their heart rates up & that they can continue in for a lifetime!
PE Consultant
Coach Erik Andersen
Erik Andersen (aka: Coach A or Mr. A), has been a Curie PE consultant for close to 20 years. He is also a local club soccer coach, former UC High School Soccer Coach, and he runs a youth summer camp here in University City. Coach A is a proud father to 3 kids that attended Curie before moving on to Standley Middle School. One of his favorite things about our neighborhood is the sense of community.
As a Curie PE consultant his mission statement is: “Using PE to get kids to enjoy being active in a positive social atmosphere that will lead to healthy habits throughout the rest of their lives.” One of his favorite things to do is to take an existing game and create a new and modified game that is more dynamic and inclusive for all students to engage in the activity. Coach A looks forward to getting to work with your Curie students every day.
Art Teacher
Lee Bertrand
Lee Bertrand (Mr. B) is a professional photographer & artist. His photography is primarily inspired by the ocean both from underneath & above the surface. His fine art medium of choice is graphite and he enjoys drawing realistic portraits of people & pets.
Mr. B has worked with children for the past fifteen years and looks forward to working with and connecting with every Curie student! He works hard each year helping students create beautiful art for our Square1 fundraiser, and he puts an immense amount of time and energy into helping our kids produce beautiful content to show off at the annual Art & Music Showcase.
